06 CDI
I've come across an 06 E320 CDI that I'm interested in and would love to hear what W211 E320 CDI owners have to say about the car?
Things to look for? Known issues? Is it a "buy" year or run away as fast as I can year? Any useful advise welcome!! I'm going to test drive it tomorrow. Thanks!

I'm not an owner... Yet. But I'm looking. I want the '06 because it was the last year of the inline 6 and no Ad Blue.

i've had one for 2 years now and am extremely satisfied with it. an electrical connector on the transmission tends to leak, but is inexpensive to repair. there's been quite a bit written about the braking system controller on this car, but i've had no problems with mine. it's roomy, comfortable, and very efficient. mine routinely delivers 40+ mpg on my commute to and from work. i find the routine maintenance procedures to be easy to perform, and i enjoy doing them. i'm actively searching for a second one in good shape for my wife to drive - i like it that much.

You would not believe the procedure for changing brake fluid out on the SBC equipped cars which IIRC this car has.

I love my '05. I change my oil from the top side. The fuel filter is a little more cumbersome to change than a 617. SBC brakes are dangerous because of their (seemingly random) self test, but you just need to remember to disconnect the SBC connector before working on brakes. I had a fuel pump (in-tank) go at 167k...easy to replace, but $600 dealer-only part. I had a front wheel bearing sieze at 175k or so. Had to replace the spindle as a result, but shame on me for not monitoring it better. I run 100% homemade BD since I've owned it (57k now on BD). Changed one glow plug, it came out easy. I chipped mine with Bully Dog to get it close to 235HP.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, and will as soon as I drive the wheels off this one.

My brother has an '06 that he purchased new. He is very pleased with it, has never had any type of problems. I'll note his has low miles, so it may not be all that typical.
It does have SBC brakes. SBC does have a 10 year warranty, so the car should be covered at least until the fall 2015. My dealer charges about $175 to perform brake bleed on SBC cars, which is not a materially different amount than for non-SBC cars. |
