new 84SD in the drive

I had been chasing this one. Craigslist didn't have contact info & they didn't respond to email. Gave it another try & heard back. $3,000 firm.

Price dropped to 2,500 firm. Too far & wife (who looks out for my best interests) didn't want me to take the time from other projects that I've created.

I emailed seller asking them to drive to Chatt about 2 hrs. No answer. I finally reached them by phone. Car is back on CL $1,500 - potential buyer turned them down because AC belt broke and car needs a tune up. She didn't know what tune up meant but car wouldn't run over 50 mph.

I asked if they would give me to Sat to come get it. They couldn't be home Sat but would Sun. I had seen pics that looked good. Upon arrival, 165,000 on clock. shiny paint is repaint but acceptable, interior dirty, seats & easy carpet could use replacing with minor other parts, vacuum locks inoperable, door seals dry rotted, car starts immediately, trans engages immediately, won't go over 50 mph, AC belt gone clutch spins freely, other beltss cracked, valve cover leaks oil all over engine.

I'm out $1500, $75 trailer rent & $100 fuel. Beautiful starting point is in the drive. pics later. I'm headed out to make a list. (fuel filters are in my truck taken on the trip in case needed to get engine to run)

Motor & trans mount installation receipt is in documents provided. I'll adjust valves & deal with the shake for starters.

Cool! Sounds like you got a decent one to call your "starting point"!

I wouldn't be surprised if a dose of biocide and new filters once or twice fixes the 50 mph thing.

Good luck!

The 50mph problem could also be a very simple fix,I bought a 300d some yrs back that was slow and wouldnt reach 45 mph ,turned out to be the linkage to the throttle ,that pesky little harden rubber ball bushing at the firewall ,after many yrs of service these things fall apart and leave a non responsive throttle with alot of foot into it.Shake back and forth the rod leading to it ,if theirs any play at all ,thats it.

I had Startron & filters with me but didn't want to diagnose before I had the deal finished. I've made an initial list and am looking for mostly interior (Palomino leather) things.

There is a dent in the top that wasn't in pics I received. PITA because a lot needs paint to fix.
