Mercedes would tell you to do the reverse of what you already did

Which seal are you taking about? I once did the door seals that the window slides between on my 300D. One they call a brush, I think. They cost a small fortune.

The seal is the one that goes above the window and goes on either side down the door frame with the front going deep into the door while the rear portion goes just a bit into the track , i am trying to avoid taking the door panel off if it can be avoided

I need to see a picture. Ive done a few on my cars on the lower and upper side but cant recall.

On my coupe, there was a channel that the rubber fit into via a notch on each side. You slid it down into the sheetmetal at the end...

Topic revival

I am getting ready to do this job myself to help with road noise. I think the job is straight forward, but would like the advice of anyone who has been through the process before.

Thanks.

i just did this on both front doors.
it's called a window run. you definitely have to take the door panel off. you also have to remove both inner and outer window brushes.
the chrome piece on the outside had to be removed in order to remove the outside brush.
it needs to be tapped UP with a soft hammer or something so you don't harm the chrome.
once it's off, you can pull the brush out of the clips. of course mercedes engineered the clips to hold BOTH the chrome and the brush. you'll see what i mean.

on the inside, you have to take the door panel/card off. once it's off the removal of the inside brush is easy.. it just pulls straight up.

the old run will pull out pretty easy although you'll get some resistance where it goes down into the door. putting the new one in, use lots of silicone lube and it will go in easy all the way around EXCEPT where it goes down into the door.

if you wanted to, removal of the regulator and even the entire window would make installing it down into the door really easy. but the way i did it was to put on copious amounts of lube and slide it down into the channel in the door from the top. it'll only go down in there maybe 80% of the way using that technique. then, using very long needle nose pliers, you can pull it down the rest of the way through one of the holes in the door sheetmetal. believe me, this is not easy at all, and it took me an hour probably to get the seal all the way in.
