Cheap wagon club member. I have a 2-3 flare that I have tried in vain to correct. Transmission is getting worse. Little bit of metal in pan/filter so I know its not long before it goes.

What I need to know is what transmission to look out for if I can find a used one. My wagon is a 1980 300TD NA. It is a 100% vacuum tranny, green modulator, no bowden cable. Are there number(s) somewhere on the transmission that tell me which one it is? What transmissions are compatible?

722.118. I don't know about that specific tranny but the 722.3 and 722.4 have the part and serial number etched into the starboard side of the pan just above the sump mating surface. Same tranny for coupe, sedan and wagon. Different tranny for 240D.
