Whoa! Fuel Senders are expensive for the TD Wagon!

Cleaned all my senders the other day in the 3 cars and the wagon was extra bad - tweaked one of the little wires and almost had it resoldered but no luck - now learning a sender for the wagon will set me back over 200.00! Anyone have a td fuel sender out there . . . ?

Why does it have to be for a wagon. I have a wagon and have used a sender from a newer gas w126 parts car. I think we have even used a 300D sender in the wagon.

Hmmmm? The wagon has a flat shallow tank and the sedan a tall deep tank. Are the senders the same length? I don't see how that is possible. I've had senders out of both but I can't remember if they were different lengths.

Just looked them up. Sedan and wagon have different part numbers Sedan sender looks longer in the picture. Priced the same though. Personally I would be willing to do a lot of math (ie--calculating distance the car could travel on a tank) for $200.

yes, wagon sender is very short - not sure how the previous poster thought other models would work . . .

Talk to the people at Centriod Products & see what a solid state sender would cost. I bought one for a Dodge Ram because OEM for that vehicle frequently fail. Another member on the Ram forum listed specs. I expect that Centroid can tell you what measurements to take. Cost was $62 delivered. It reacts a little slower than the float variety but is works fine for knowing when to re-fill. It has been installed for 4 years.

CENTROID PRODUCTS - Computerized Tank Display - Electronic Senders - capacitive fuel gauges

Fuel sending units at PNP are around $25. I`ll keep my eye open for a TD.
I have never pulled a TD unit, isn`t it under the carpeted floor panel in the back? I know the sedans take a 1 13/16 socket, the TD the same?

yep under the carpet. Don't know if the hex is the same size. I used an adjustable toilet wrench to get it out.

Ok good to know, and I have the 1 13/16 socket. I remember reading of using the end of 13/16 spark plug socket to remove something on a TD. maybe it is the fuel tank strainer I was think of.

Don`t thank me yet, haven`t located any TD`s. they are not real plentiful. would a 124 TD/TE sender work? I have seen several TE`s show up the last few months.

Well, just purchased a set of nickel wound guitar strings and used the high e string and soldered it in in place of the Nichrome wire which is hair like. Reading looks high, curious to see if it will drop as tank volume reduces . . . . . to those reading along, be extra gentle with these senders, repairing them is a pita! One moment of carelessness and twang, good bye contacts! I am going to mount my old sender over the work bench as a reminder to slow down, Replacement for the TD wagon is 217.00 new, ouch!

Guitar e string not gonna work. Too low in resistance, i.e. a dead short.

I would not pay $217. Centroid works fine. Supposedly very durable based on forum reports. I've only had mine 4 yrs so only have that time documented.
