Someone was just asking me about those. Now to see if I can remember who it was. FYI, the front panel is usually ok and is easy to ship. The rear panel is fragile fiberglass, usually boogered up, and a major pain to pack and ship such that it won't get damaged in transit. They really do reduce the noise levels on the car, and both will fit your 2.5T's, so I'd hang onto 'em.

Nice score!

the radiator is nearly worth $400, add in the panels, and the wheels... you certainly got your money's worth!

the lack of turbo could be as simple as a dirty air filter! or the vacuum lines could be buggered on the arv...

Air filter was very dirty...banged out all the loose stuff and will order new one. Interestingly the smoke seems to be subsiding. I'm beginning to suspect the PO drove it like a granny (he admitted as much) and there's just a lot of gunk that needs to be blown out.

oh yeah. the cat is likely 90% plugged...
get the car out on the freeway and FLOOR it.
let all the sparks and soot fly. ya need a good 20 minute long pull... a steep hill is great for this, in 3rd gear to hold the RPM's to the wall!

This is getting fun! Replaced the air filter and fuel filters. Once it's warmed up, I'm driving it as hard as I can. It's like it's being awakened from an automotive slumber! The smoke is GONE...other than some crud being expelled this morning when I floored it. The car is noticeably quicker and more power than it was two days ago. Next I'm going after the ALDA.

Just put them back in place and show them off at the next GTG! Why don't you want them?

My first 240D was a tired, rusty $200 Craigslist special. I patched the worst of the rust (which cost very little except time) then put about $900 to turn something ready for the crusher, into a useable car. Plus, never having owned a diesel, I think the knowledge I gained learning about them was priceless.
OTHO, it definitely would have cost many thousands of $$$$ to properly restore this car. But I was able to use it as-is (also it wasn't my sole transporation) then get most of my money back when I sold it six years later.

Happy Motoring, Mark
