There is nothing more expensive than a cheap mercedes.
If you're buying a keeper, this is absolutely true. Better to pay double up front. However if you're buying a beater daily driver (or winter driver for the rust belt)... that's a slightly different story. No need to fix everything on the latter, just change the fluids/filters and drive it into the ground.
