Can't get my 83 300d to go more than 5mph

Not sure what the problem is but I think it's related to the alda? My car won't go over 1000 rpm with the throttle all the way down.

I originally thought the problem was with the fuel, so I replaced my filters emptied the tank, cleaned the screen, cleaned the tank, put in some clean diesel in there, and bled the system removing the old fuel from the return lines, then after it was squirting clean fuel reconnected the return line. Yay I have clean fuel now... but that didn't fix my problem. It didn't seem to really do anything.

The problem happened right after I tried to adjust my alda... which was a disaster. The previous owner had messed with the alda I guess because the top of it was all bent up and the screw was broken. I removed the nut, and then managed to get a hold of the screw with vice grips to turn it ccw. well I thought it worked, but it actually snapped the screw at the base inside the alda. Dunno what to do about that besides replace the whole thing.
The reason I went in to adjust the alda was because I was going to originally adjust the throttle linkage to make my throttle a touch more responsive. I printed out the info I needed for it but realized I didn't have a metric ruler to measure them, so that didn't happened. After that I thought maybe the alda would make it work a little better. Wrong. Now I can't get my car to go more than 5mph, if that.

1st make certain that the throttle linkage is binding anywhere.
2ns make certain that you have 100% travel at the IP. See the stop down in there, the linkage should go all the way to the stop.
3rd if the above two steps don't fix the problem. I would consider shimming the ALDA to get decent throttle response.

ignore previous post...
get some thin open ends, and remove the alda.
if the rod is broken, it'll really limit your fuel.
you hold the alda nut still, and the IP side nut unscrews from it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. But after doing lots of searching and reading it's confusing how to remove it. The most informative post I found was here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/2924196-post23.html

In relating to that post are you saying to hold the top wrench still and move the bigger nut or the other way around? I tried to just do one nut at a time to see if I would be lucky enough to loosen one because I haven't found wrenches yet that will both fit together (I'll be getting some later). My attempts haven't really accomplished anything. I want to know if I'm doing it right.

edit: to clarify my question is when you say "you hold the alda nut still, and the IP side nut unscrews from it" does the IP side nut unscrew away from the alda or away from the IP?

Got it removed using this method: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/1361924-post46.html

Now i'm looking for info on what to do with it. Since it has a hose and a banjo bolt should the hose be plugged or do I need to get a different bolt without holes to plug up the intake manifold side. Once I figure that out I guess I'll start it up and see if I can get some rpms.

You should easily get more than 1000 rpm with the hose hanging loose. Ideally it should be plugged.

Good news: removing the alda fixed the problem and now the car will rev like a beast!

Bad news: I wasn't expecting the change to be that big. I started the car and pulled the throttle under the hood to rev it (about half way) holy mofo that thing revved. And since I have an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold I was gifted with a pleasant face full of exhaust. So much coughing... Oh well, it was worth it
