OM603 head bolt socket

Any ways around this? Has anyone else found a socket that will remove these 12 point bolts? I cant find my socket, and torx simply will not do the job. I can order a socket, because I doubt anyone local has one, but I'd love to get this engine torn down today.

My set of four triple-square bits (M6-8-10-12) carried the "OEM" housename and came from "Pep Boys" for $13. The bits fit in any common 1/2" socket for use with ratchets, bars, and torque wrenches. The M10 fits the OM603 head bolts. Any McParts store should be able to get something similar.

Pick up 2 or 3 sets while you're there. The torque required to release a bolt once coolant seeps into the threads and calls it home can overwhelm a non-German made bit.

Or, I'd spend money on a decent socket by snap on or MAC

Samstagsales.com has them as well in hazet and stahwhile brand as well

I bought 4 sets thinking they would break. But they were USA made, I am impressed. I thought the USA's last exports were obesity and Snuggies.

Yep, I broke the tip off one of the Pep Boys XZN bits working on my subframe project and ended up needing a couple sets. Though actually the broken stub was still effective.

I could have told you lisle was crap.

The correct, factory used socket, from hazet is $53. If I were removing and installing head bolts I'd buy it.

You didn't mention following a removal sequence, have you gotten ahold of the factory service manual for this sequence?

I bought a Stahlwhile XZN from Ebay for around $20 delivered for 617 head bolts. The shank must be long and thin to fit the cam tower headbolts (on the 617). The XZN bits driven by a 1/2" socket will not fit due to interference. Not sure if you will have that problem or not.
