Did rust finally put the final nail in the coffin? I see you live in the rust belt.
Is this your 77 or 83?
You have been on the forum quite a while, sad to see anyone leave it`s sort of like a loosley nitt family. I know I have met some great people since I have signed on.

Drop in once in a while to say hi or see what we are up to, take care and be safe in what ever you do. :)

Not sure why no longer having an old Mercedes precludes you from this site.
We do have friends here.......

And he's said good bye on BW too - sniff sniff...

Well I will check in once in a while but not having something to work on or check to see what people are talking about really limits my participation. The motor went south after changing oil and forgetting to put oil in. Will have parts for sale.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

Wow, that's a sad story. Did you get distracted?

charmalu 08-13-2012 12:55 AM

No oil really puts the Kabosh on them not running for long.:(

I got distracted doing an oil change one time, but went the other way. added an extra 8 qts. :o

Look around on CL, I came across 2 240D`s that were wrecked, one for $400 and the other for $1700, and a 300CD Turbo that was totaled. don`t remember the price, but they are out there is you look, and want to keep the MB.

Forum member Nate Stanley and I pulled an engine from PNP 2 1/2 yrs ago, when he did the compression #`s, they were right up there near the top. Paid $300 for it.

All depends if you want to keep your old Benz, and if you can do the work your self, and the condition of the body.

If I was twenty years younger I would find and replace engine but I have too many things on my plate now so I will take the valuable parts off and say goodby to it.

@ Kerry, Yes I was thinking of the next thing I was check levels under the hood and thinking of what I was going to do next when this senior moment happen. Oil sitting next to the car :(

As i have senior moments more and more these days, and i did recently drive a car off the amps without putting the oil in (only ran a few seconds)

i will take steps to prevent this from happening to me;

- start the oil change by putting the new oil on the drivers seat?

kerry 08-13-2012 09:53 AM

Whenever there's something I need to do before driving the car again, I typically pull out the seatbelt and make a couple of loops around the steering wheel to remind myself.

lol, this is written in the way of something people say to their partner as reason to break up. Only thing missing is "go **** yourself" at the end. :D Was it that bad?

"Our love has died. And so has the connection to you. Thanks for the good time"

charmalu should have said "but baby, what about (insert proof of positive relationship here)" in the first response. :D
