Help with broken caliper mounting bracket
 

I realize this isn't exactly diesel-specific..... My '95 E300D has Bendix floating front calipers, I was replacing pads and rotors this afternoon due to a wear indicator light. RF inner pad was worn down to the wear sensor, much more than any of the other pads on the front. Sure enough one of the caliper mounting bracket pins was frozen, and when I pulled the bracket and tried to rotate the pin to free it up, it sheared right off. Badly rusted to small diameter.

I can't seem to find a part number for the caliper mounting bracket anywhere, thought I would ask the good folks here. My EPC access isn't working at the moment for some reason.

I don't think the socket and pin are replaceable separate from the whole bracket, - anyone know? Looks like no way to remove the socket, and mine is rusted anyway.

Any got advice or a part number?

As well as the Calipers, doesn`t show rebuilds just new ones. not sure of the mounting bracket you mention, the pin goes through 2 holes along with the other pin to hold down the spring clip. are the holes rusted out also?

Charlie, we 124 guys keep this under our hats but MB cheaped out and put single piston calipers on 6-cylinder 124 in place of opposing piston calipers on 123s and 126s. It looks like the floating caliper on your Datsun that has to come off to change pads. You can't just push out a couple of pins, slip in new pads and have time to make a sandwich during a commercial break. V8 124s get proper opposing pistons calipers with easy-to-replace pads.

EPC calls the bracket a brake anchor 000 420 12 15 left, 000 420 13 15 right, including all hardware, except the brake cylinder housing (caliper) and the bolts that hold the brake cylinder housing to the anchor. The anchor is common to early 124s and possibly all 6-cylinder 124s (hint, used isn't a bad way to go). The anchor lists for $210, discounts to $150. There's also a 'cup' parts kit 001 420 13 83 that looks like the slidy accordion thing and a bolt. The brake anchor includes this cup. The cup alone lists for $23.50, discounts to $16.50. Maybe this cup is what you call a socket.

Thanks much! I probably never would have found that part number without help. I agree that the "cup" is probably what I'm referring to as the socket. It's the part that the caliper mounting sliding bolt thingy (a shaft sliding in the cup with a nut on the end with a threaded hole for the caliper bolt) goes in. No one reading this will have a clue unless they have done this job recently....

I agree that used would be nice, but time, distance, and lack of good yards in the area make this one case where I'll probably go ahead and order it. Unless it takes weeks to get one! My car is down waiting for this.

I saw 3 or 4 W124`s in the San Jose south yard yesterday.
