contact switch in lock assembly
Hi bought a new lock assembly - it's for a w116 300 SD Turbodiesel (1980). It came without the black plastic contact switch. See attached picture - item number 8.
Not sure what this switch is for (US market only). I have a lock assembly from a gasoline car with that contact switch attached. I want to take this switch from the gasoline lock assembly and put it to the new Diesel lock assembly. How can this switch be removed? thnx Sebastian

That is the switch for the NHSTA mandated anti-theft warning buzzer. It gives you the alert you left the keys in the switch when leaving the car. This is why it is only on US cars.
Not needed for the car to run. If you can't figure out how to get the switch to transplant from the old one just leave the connector unhooked. You just won't have the key in switch warning so be careful when leaving the car. But if you are like me, I always use the key to lock the car, so the keys are in my hand when I get out...
