Working with W126 front seat track motors
I was able to pull a very nice passenger spring box, pad and motors from a '89 300SE today. It's super firm, so I'm excited to get the springs and pad into my driver's seat frame in the next couple of weeks. I had to pull the track and motors out together because I didn't have a battery to move the box along the track. So a couple of questions: Do I just place a jumper wire on the different pins to get the motors to slide the box in position for removal? Should I place a fuse in my jumper wire to keep from burning a motor out? Did the later model W126 seats use the same motors and wiring for the bottom part of the seat as the earlier versions? I'm guessing not because of the memory function, but it sure would make this job easier if they did. Thanks

ETM says there's a violet and blue wire pair between the controller and the slide motor. The other 3 wires are for seat position for the memory function. You'll have to dig through all 5 connectors at the controller to find the one with the violet and blue pair.

So violet may be forward and blue back, or vice versa, what do you do about a ground without a switch?
Should I put a fuse in the jumper wire to be safe? |
I just did this with some 124 seats. All I did was find the motors, note which colors were on the wires and popped open the connector and used a drill battery to move them.

It's a DC motor so one polarity is forward, reverse polarity is reverse.

If you have the seat box and tracks out and upside down undo the motor flex cable from the track gear. In the square drive hole insert the square tang of a round file and turn to move the seat along the tracks to line up the access holes for the bolts.
I turned the round file with a reversing variable speed drill. I hope I understood your problem. |
Gears, thanks for the advice. I wish I had that knowledge before I went to pick and pull. At this point I'm going to borrow someones drill battery not just to move the bed along the track but to test the motors for resale.

You can take the motors to your car and use the battery.
