HEY. i just wanted to ask if anyone could tell me if an air cleaner system out of a toyota camery (90's) would flow enough air for 300d turbo 83

A cold air won't add any power on one of these cars. It makes the turbo louder, but you won't really see any power.

Given the engine size of the camery & it being a gasser, it is unlikely to be an ideal selection. In theory cold air may let you tweak an extra lb or 2 from the turbo before the EGT gets too high. It is really just a waist of time. Put an intercooler on if you want to run higher boost.

polish the car & run skinny tires with plenty of pressure will do more to improve fuel consumption = efficiency.

if you are searching for economy, aerodynamics is the key. the stock intake is far less restrictive that the car can use. tweaks to the alda, and the timing of the IP, along with perfect balance on the injectors, and delivery valves will net you the most economy.
reducing weight in the car, perfecting the shifting, and getting a manual trans.
moon hubcaps, air dams, spoiler/wing...

The stock intake on the 617 pulls in fresh cold air from the gap between te radiator support and hood. Can't get any colder for ya.

Sure, but wouldn't it be a better idea to measure your fuel economy on a tankful or two, then come back and ask whether what you are getting is normal or not, and if the forum members have ideas on how it can be improved (assuming it isn't up to par)?

They don't get 35mpg if that's what you've read.

I got 33.1 with avg speed of 75 mph on the highway on a cool morning. Boost was reading around 4-5 psi. I believe that if one really tried they could get 35mpg. I am an opportunist. I have this car now, so I will do my best with it. I know a lot of you gentlemen may think that I am stupid and ignorant, but I am doing what I want. My goal is to get 40 mpg highway with my car and I will achieve my goal. Wish me luck for those of you who are like me and for those of you that are not like me...wish me luck anyways(: thanks.

if whatever dude that was could mod up his CRX HF for 130 mpg then i bet a W123 could do 40... in certain conditions. good luck!

There is no way you are getting 33 MPG's at 75 mph in that car. The gearing of the W123 will provide excellent fuel economy at 55 MPH, anything above 60 and the work the engine has to do increases exponentially.

Share your methods and procedures because I don't believe it.

The stock intake on the 1983 diesel IS a cold air intake. Gearing and the nature of the OM617 engine precludes 40mpg.

I think your speedometer/odometer isn't working.

A 300D can barely get much over 30 going 55mph on flat ground with no wind. 75mph will give approx 23-25mpg.

You will not achieve your goal, math and physics will make sure for you.

Even my smaller, lighter, more aerodynamic, more advanced engine, far less powerful 190d 2.2 (73 horsepower) can barely break 36mpg at 75mph on a good day. I even have a lower ratio differential.

You can go to the WIX site and see if they list the Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM) on both of the Air Filters.
If I remember correctly the Air Filter for My 84 300D was rated at 450 CFM.
