Shifter Boot for 240D and other Manual transmission shifters

I replaced the Shifter Boot on our 80 240D. the original had seen it`s last days. the new one got is like a piece of stiff plastic, I thought it should be some sort of soft rubber.I get the boot on the shifter and under the edge of the plastic piece that holds it in, but when it`s cold it won`t stay tucked under the edge and comes out.

I was looking in CL last night and saw this 83 240D with this nifty Shift Boot. I would like to know what it might have come off of.
1983 Merceds Benz 240D Diesel - 4sp manual trans.

Anyone have a clue what it could have been made for? Looks classy like it was made for the 240D.

Yah, thats a nice boot, you don't see too many wood consoles on the manual 240s either.

It looks like the shift boot of my 1990 Mitsubishi Galant. Years - now decades ago, you could get a generic shift boot that looked like that at any auto parts store.

Available in straight - SHIFT BOOT RUBBER 5 1/2"X4" EURO UNIVERSAL HOT ROD RAT ROD new vintage car TRUCK | eBay

And angled - SHIFT BOOT RUBBER SLANT EURO UNIVERSAL HOT ROD RAT ROD new vintage car TRUCK | eBay

My boot is so stiff it pulls loose the wood trim piece.

OEM boots are not stiff. If you want to keep it original use order # 1232670097. They are available and cheap. Or you can make one yourself out of real leather.

So are other auto company's shift boots held in place as the MB boots are?

I had the same problem with the boot coming undone; ended up having to re-glue the plastic retainer to the underside of the wood console trim. If its loose at all the boot won't hold, so check it.

That said, the boot softens up over time; but mine also cracked within 12 months....If my 240D were nicer I'd consider one of those leather boots on ebay.
