converting 240d to 300d turbo
Hey there:
I would like to prepare for the future of my 240d by buying a 300 d turbo motor in advance of 240 engine dying. The 240 is a 4 speed and I know about match balancing the flywheel, cutting the driveshaft? and maybe a bigger radiator . But I dont know what I need for the car when I add the turbo. Ive done trans changes and all that stuff but if someone could run down the parts list I would need Id really be gratefull.BTW 240 has 224k and runs strong but I just want to be ready.... Thanks |

You will be adding one more cylinder, so the transmission will be moved back about 4 inches. you will need a transmission X mount from a 240D automatic. You will need the down pipe and exhaust from a turbo diesel. The 617.952 engine has 2 shock mounts on each side. If you have access to the donor car, cut off the tabs where they mount to the body or make some. GP Relay from the donor car. Change the Differential, you have the 3:69 in the 240 and the 300D from 82 - 84 use a 3:07 and the 85 uses a 2:88. 300SD uses these also from the same years. when swapping in the Diff get the Spedo from the same car. the Spedo and Diff are geared together. This is all I can think of at the moment. I have swapped in a 4-spd into a 85 300D, if you can find a FW from a 617 engine it would be the best way to go, but they are hard to find. the 240 FW will work. there is about 10# difference in the weight.
