Smile How to clean EGR mess on 99 E300 turbo diesel ?

i just got this car, needed to get to fuel lines, there is a leak from one of them, and as expected found this huge mess in intake. two questions:
1. how to completely clean entire intake, removed part, but also areas in engine head
2. what is best EGR delete for this engine?
Here is a link to short video on youtube.

Cleaning -- disassemble and soak in your favorite solvent or send out to a place that will do a hot-tank cleaning (make sure alloy parts are safe in whatever they use). I used biodiesel for my '96 E300 and followed up with hot soapy water. Didn't do quite as well as the hot-tank method but faster and less expensive.

The intake manifold can be carefully scraped with a dull knife to remove the baked-on carbon without damaging the aluminum. Be gentle and hold a vacuum cleaner nozzle next to each port as you work so that the crud is sucked into the vacuum rather than falling into the intake.

While you're in there check and clean the crankcase ventilation system and replace any broken plastic parts.

EGR defeat is more complicated on the OM606 turbo engines. There's a thread on the subject here somewhere' a search will bring it up. You can't just block off the EGR valve because doing so will set a code in your model-year.
