How to remove the tach Cable
82 SD Does anyone have any tricks to remove the cable from the engine or from the trash can?

There are 2 small screws on either side of the trash can, remove the can, then the screws and the socket part will lift up and cable will pull out the bottom.
Isn`t there a little nut on a stud at the crank end that holds the cable on? remove it and i believe it will lift up. Hope I understod what you were asking. Charlie

the two screws do indeed release the can base from the body, but there is a cable connected to it that goes into the firewall, without a release connector.
the screw would indeed release the end from the bracket on the block, but I'm unable to find a thin enough socket to get on the nut, and without removing the VP, I couldn't use a ratchet on the socket if I find one that will fit... I can't get on it with an open end either... I'll figure it out,but was hoping some of you have tackled it before. I tried to disconnect the cable from the can base, but it appears to be nigh permanent ...

sorry, the tach amp is generally called the trash can... or if it's got a cigarette butt in it, it's an ash can...

Is a 300SD tach amp different than a 300DT? On a 300DT, the tach pickup cable has a 3 pin connector that plugs into the tach amp.
