I know of one in Springfield MO, about 200 miles from St. Louis, which direction are you out of town from?
you could call them and see if they could recommend someone possibly, sorry I can't be of more useful help, hopefully a member from MO will chime in Import Specialists 2140 E Pythian St Springfield, MO 65802 (417) 873-3444 |
Does this sound like a blown head gasket?
|
No!
I know of a diesel mechanic in St. Louis. He works mostly on VW's but he may be able to help. He goes by the name of oilhammer, but I think his real name is Jason. Anyway, he works at a place called Car Docs. The phone number is (314) 991-CARS (2277) Hope this helps |
What Year and model are you speaking of?
Oil in the Exhaust could be a Turbo Charger Failure but that is not the only thing that can cause an Oil leak into the Exhaust. If no Belts were turning with the Engine running I would expect the Engine to overheat; especially if you just pulled over after the Engine had been running a long time. |
Sounds like a harmonic balancer/pulley issue to me. I have seen this before on a 79 300SD. I know a good towing service down here in south Ga but I'd hate to see the bill.

Answer
I have been talking with her husband on the phone.
All auxiliary belts stopped moving, engine still running. He decided to continue driving down the highway. The engine stopped running (roughly) 60 miles from Saint Louis Missouri. The harmonic and pulley are still mounted to the engine. There is engine oil running out the exhaust pipe. My professional opinion: * The harmonic dowel pins have sheared, unknown crankshaft damage. * Continued running with NO water pump may have ruined the head gasket, and/or cracked the head. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/246910-diesel-harmonic-balancer-threads.html http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/266668-main-seal-front-rear-harmonic-balancer-pulley.html#post2352212 http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/252429-diesel-cylinder-head-issues-thread.html . |

The mechanic said it is the rear seal. I thought these engines were rocks. 30sd 1982
|
They are rocks, until you drive after an obvious failure, and continue driving until they fail catastrophically.

or have him explain how the rear seal got oil running out the exhaust... even the hardest rock of all *(Diamond I believe) will fail if you grind on it repeatedly, or hit it with a hammer... |
This is not my mechanic. The car stopped outside of St. Louis. It is at a mechanic there that was referred to me by Roy. Does it sound like he is lying?
