300SDL exhaust

I purchased a wrecked 87 to obtain spare parts to fix my 87. I noticed that the wrecked car has a dual pipe outlet exhaust system which I am assuming came from a gas engine. Has anyone tried this and did it result in a performance increase?

Some older threads suggest that the back pressure might be wrong for the turbo?

Presumably, the V8 exhaust (a 5.6L engine) provides more flow capability than the diesel strictly due to the size of the engine.

Therefore, we can conclude that the exhaust is less restrictive downstream of the turbo.

However, if we also conclude that the OE system on the SDL is designed as a reasonable compromise for cost and efficiency, removing it completely (with no restriction whatsoever) would provide a very marginal (read not measurable) benefit.

The V8 exhaust would fall between the OE system on the SDL and no exhaust whatsoever............a benefit that would also be not measurable.
