MURDER at the boneyard

I was looking over the local PnP for stuff. I was walking to the exit and i look over and see a 300TDT in the crushing area. They accidentally left the gate to the restricted area and i snuck over to peek.
its a Euro model with tow hitch, Well I saw it had the key in it. I turned it and it started. It ran smooth. I think to myself I wonder when they will put it out for picking.
I go to the checkout and ask when. They're clueless. So i go sneak back to grab the floor mats and cruise on. "Oops I forgot the rear ones". I go back again and look the thing over again. This time one of the operators sees me and stops. He tells me, " you cant get anything off this car.' I ask "when will it be out in the yard", and he tells me "its being crushed". "Whaat" I said. "it came from the state" ,he says. Meaning its part of the California smog clunker program. They buy cars for $500 and send them to the crusher. The guy showed me a old ford fiesta that the state probably payed the same amount for as the Euro 300tdt with tow hitch and running euro td engine, and ABS. cloth interior cream color.
At least he let me have the floor mats as dirty as they were.
What a shame!!!

Owner of the car was on some bad drogas. Wouldn't that be worth at least $2000 on Craigslist.

They used to pay $1,000.00 for a 20 year or older car. When did the price go down?

For some people $1,500 in an acceptable price to not have to deal with craigslist inquiries. Those nuts who offer half your asking price before they say hello. I know I wouldn't want to deal with my nutty questions

charity?

Maybe that's what happens when you donate a car to charity?

The best is when they make an appointment to see the car and say, "Oh, it's a diesel? I didn't know that."

Here cash for clunkers got put right in with everything else to be picked over, they just spray orange paint on the engine. but if you needed a #20 head or something if you found it you'd just need a small bottle of acetone and rags to romove it.

Didn't the real "Cash for Clunkers" add a chemical to the oil to destroy the engine? That head you find might not be any good.

Most of the salvage yards didnt use the "liquid glass". They just stuck the car in the general lot with a "C4C" painted on the sides. Go back a few weeks later and the engines/transmissions magically disappeared.

A good thing too -- better for the person driving a low-MPG car with a worn engine to be able to get a replacement from a boneyard, then polluting even more because he can't afford a new car or OEM-new engine.

I don't think any Diesels qualified for C4C.

yes, it was very frustrating

I wanted that car. it started easily.that euro turbo spooled up differenly than mine. the body was fine. the cream cloth seats were dirty but no tears. it even had the third seat deal in back with 3 head rests in the back seat. all not torn
Maybe the transmission was bad.
I wonder what the PO was thinking. It was not the cash for clunkers program where they gave you a lot of monedy for a car I think that program is over. Now it is the smog program which always just gives around $600. You have to be in a smog area to qualify. Out in the country wont do.

Some of the Diesels did fall into the "Cash for Clunker" program.

Sure is chicken shtuff when you can`t pull any parts off the car.
