OM603 timing
I know the subject has been beaten to death and I found many useful threads here in the forum. Out out of curiosity I pulled the big nut on the side of the pump to get an idea where my timing is. I don't yet have the IP locking tool so I eye balled with a mirror and flash light. To my surprise I found the pump set at 8 degrees ATDC. Would the engine even be running at this timing or is this just the inaccuracy of my method? I don't plan to make any adjustments until I have the correct tools on hand. The engine runs fine, plenty of get up and go but a bit smokey at idle IMHO.
Bad pic of the crank. Its at 8 degrees. http://i.imgur.com/A0ky3.jpg Pump http://i.imgur.com/Q7N0z.jpg

To me it appears to be 12 degrees ATDC, but I can't fully reconcile the direction from which the photo was taken.
12 would be far more likely and would indicate 3 degrees advanced. That would be surprising and would indicate that a PO had a hand in it at some time. I would doubt that it does you any harm. |
