What's the correct H4 wattage for eurolights?

Hey guys,
Easy question: I want to get new H4 bulbs for my eurolights. Do you know what the correct wattage is for these lights? Is it 55/60? Is it higher? Thanks so so so much.

Alex

Yes you are correct. Higher wattage bulbs won't help too much. The light output is outstanding with standard wattage bulbs, as long as the light is aimed properly.

Yep, just checked the Haynes manual for the 123's. For UK models (Euro type headlight) it specifies a 60/55W.

I've found that you can purchase bulbs that have the same dipped beam power, but with an increased high-beam output from JC Whitney. This way, you don't annoy the oncomming traffic with the lows (which is the same LEGAL output as OEM), but when you really want light: hit the highbeams (Main beams) and NOTHING compares to it. There is little you can do to the lowbeams (other than converting to HID) that will make them more effective other than having them aimed properly, but you can really improve the highbeams, because their spread is not as defined as the low beam's.

Highbeams have to fill a much larger volume of space than lows and I think 5 watts more just doesn't cut it.

I use 80/55w bulbs, and it really makes a BIG difference (in my humble opinion)!

Hi-power H4 bulbs

Here in the UK you can get AFAIR 55/100W, 90/100W, 90/130W, There is a caveat that they are for 'off road' use only .. yeah right!!! The correct ones for europe (ec marked) are 55/60.
I used to run 90/100 in an audi coupe with 130's in the driving lamps.... and our rally car had 4 sets of spots all with 130w in them (and a b****y big alternator!)
The first thing I used to do in all my cars was change the bulbs as a lot of the time the lights were appalling! and funnily enough I have burnt out light switches Range Rover & Rover and melted the reflective in the headlight in a MG & Audi. aahh to be young again!!
In my 300D I am using the 'Blue lights' which are an improvement as they pick out white lines and other objects deers etc. But they are still 55/60 watts.

H4 bulbs

Personally I run around with 100/80w, great for country lanes at night you can really scare the crap out of bunnies. The owners manual for my 300D says 60/55.If lighting is a problem make sure that your silvering isn't just knackered. The brightest bulbs in the world wont make a difference if the reflectors have had it.

Sorry, forgot to mention,
My 85'300D Euro came with sealed beams, but I bought Hella lead crystal lenses and a reflector, and changed them both out. Required a little bit of wire harness surgery but in the end, the zenon gas 55/80 bulbs in the crystal fixtures made an INCREDIBLE improvement. 55watts for street driving is still legal. Highbeam power is not restricted by law I don't think. Doesn't matter unless you in the sight of another car, I guess,

Good luck with your decision.

ATLD: I just realized that my car passed PA state inspection with Cibie E-codes shining through 55/60W H4's. I was a bit worried that the shop might give me a hard time, but having spent $$$$ for new brake rotors, pads, tires, and idler arm bushings, they were cool about it.
