300CD Owners: Do you regret it?
I've been toying with the idea of picking up a 300CD to play with.
You know, because I have tons of money and free time With all the coupe-specific parts (glass, doors, window regulators, etc.), the same weight as a sedan, and reduced cargo space...would you coupe owners do it again?

I had one, got afraid of the rust work and sold it. Wish I didn't as it really is a good looking car. I'd buy another in a shot and deal with the rust. I have a mini-plan to restore one at some point.

I had one too; 1985 Petrol with creme MB Tex. Yes, I regret selling it. But I did get a 1985 wagon which better suited my needs.

The coupe specific parts are kind of a PITA. If you've got one that is fully intact and can do with reconditioning rather than replacement then it's all good. Between the north American only CD and the CEs of the rest of the world there are still a plenty of used parts out there. I've had luck with coupe specific parts from my local dealer. However, The coupe seats are an ongoing frustration for me.
sure it lacks in cargo room of the TD and the D but the CD far makes up in style. if one has a casual curiosity in getting into w123 MBz then the can go for any of many Ds out there. A true enthusiast could go for the coupe with confidence in having a more unique vehicle. AND... The wheel base is slightly shorter than the other w123 models. Definitely gives it a bit different handling. P

If anyone in the Seattle area with a W123 coupe needs an outside rearview mirror or a good (not delaminated) rear window, PM me.

I sure do. For two reasons:
1. My own crappy judgement. I got royally ripped off on a long-distance deal by a bottom-feeder. That's on me. 2. Never saw any mention, until after I owned it, of the headroom issue. As in much less than a sedan. As in, I am 6ft 4ins and I can barely hold my head up in the car. Great. A rusty** garden shed on wheels that I can't even drive comfortably. **: yes, Coupes RUST. Even in California, when the windshield seal has leaked like a sieve into the car and the water has sat on the floor (I got it from Cali, but I wonder if the car spent some of its life further north on the west coast).

I have both. I have owned more sedans than coupes. The coupe is to me, somehow a bit more comfortable. Dont know why. Apparently the seat is a bit different.
Coupes have gone the way of the dodo for a reason. That back seat is useless. You can throw a bag back there or something, but for utility, a 4dr is just tops. But if youre driving solo and want a nice car to do it in, I cant see you going wrong with the coupe. Rear window regulators are a pain, and the over-window seals are pricy, but beyond that, I cant say that it is a big deal... Would I buy one again? If it was for me as a commuter, or as a "collector" car, yes. If I was actively cartng around more than one person, had to deal with a car seat or any real amount of cargo that the trunk would be completely full, then Id probably look for a sedan due to utility.

I don't regret buying our CD at all.
My wife uses it as her daily driver and it hasn't stranded her in the nearly five years we've owned it. I don't think it's any harder to get parts for than my wagon and it's a california model. If I had it to do over again, I might buy a 560SEC instead. The seats in the CD seem fine for a tall person to me as long as the adjustments are working. There's a back and forth adjustment and an up and down adjustment. When it's at its lowest setting, I have more head room than in my wagon.

I'm 6 ft 4.5" with a long neck and I think my head hits the headliner the same in the 240d and 300cd. I think I sit lower in the cd, and the seat I think has a longer cushion.

i don't own a coupe, but the added versatility and utility of the sedan carries more weight in my mind, over the "cool factor" of a 2 door coupe. if you don't need cargo or passenger capacity, the coupe sure is a good looking car.
