Does anyone have information on the 1997 E420 with V8 diesel?
I never knew the Mercedes made a v8 diesel in a 1997 E420. I was under the impression for a dozen tears that the only diesel from 1995-1999 was the inline 6 cylinder. I'd appreciate any information from previous owners.

A V8 diesel was never offered in the US by Mercedes Benz, nor anywhere else in the world, by Mercedes Benz in the W210 Chassis.
All OM606s in the US in W210s. There were 4, 5, and 6 cylinders offered elsewhere, but no 8s, By Mercedes Benz in the W210 Chassis. There was an OM628 4.0L V8 diesel, but it was offered in the G-wagon and the S-Class outside the US, by Mercedes Benz

The OM629 was sold in the 211 E-class as the E420 CDI - but not, of course, in the U.S. 314HP and 538lb-ft of torque has to make for an interesting drive. The german wikipedia page says the OM628 was introduced in 2000 and replaced by the OM629 in 2005, so it appears there was no V8 diesel offered in the 90s.

I knew you were only referring to W210s, I figured everyone caught that the topic at hand was limited to 1997 W210s, but I guess we needed to be more broad.
Maybe that is why it is $500, hes been running it on diesel and its not running quite so well anymore haha. Beastie, the E400 never made it to the US, so you didn't miss anything.

I have had the privilege to sit shotgun in an S class big CDI, and the tsunami wave of torque can be felt.. by every occupant of the cabin.
The US soil never will see that sadly.

Looks like everyone was wrong.1997 E420 does have a V8 diesel.
