Mine will answer e-mails (slowly) and answer the phone most of the time. They should! Since they have like 4-5 parts guys and charge a 200% markup.

Call right back. Heh. I have left four phone messages. They called back on one, almost a week later.

At 'my' dealer the service side occupies the parts guys about 70-80 percent of the time. Retail gets whatever leftover service is available.

Mine always respond to emails on the same working day; are always helpful; scan in stuff as required; provide technical assistance; chief mechanic nearly always drops by the parts counter when I'm in...

...I couldn't be happier - well I could be if the prices were a bit lower!

(I only ever go to the parts counter - I'd never take it in for a service Dutch labour rates put a stop to that)

^^ Try that in any of the MB here and you'll think you are in beverly hills or Brunei.

"wheel bearing grease seal - that will be 30 dollars a piece sir" - WHAT? radio suppression clips 12 dollars a piece....

I think they hate me - because I dont ever agree to their prices. the web is still far cheaper even with shipping.

Dealership parts counters in my area stock nearly nothing for any car I own. Since they offer no advantage in convenience to go along with their healthy markups (I can get parts by mail/UPS just as quickly), I've stopped going to them.

I email my parts guy with p/n requests, availability and pricing when I need them. This way, he doesn't have to do the search on the spot, and he can do it in his own time.

The only thing I have gone to the dealer for was an accelerator pedal. It took a few days for them to get it in but the parts guys were friendly enough. I'll be back later this week to have an alignment done PROPERLY since Firestone obviously does not understand MB front suspension. If I go in for an alignment having to hold the steering wheel 15 degrees CCW to travel in a straight line on the highway and come out doing the same thing, the car was not aligned properly.

Do you mean you have to hold it that way because you're countersteering against the front end pulling, or just that's the position of the wheel when travelling straight?

Lots of alignment shops seem to ignore 'centering' the steering wheel after they've done the actual alignment work. I have had to return to shops on two occasions to get the steering wheel lined up, and this after they allegedly road tested the car.

That was my first thought when I bought the car. I am actually pulling against the wheel to keep it straight. If I center the wheel, the car veers to the right at about the speed a senior citizen in a Cadillac changes lanes. No offense if you are in your golden years, lol. The front tires show excessive wear on the sides of the tires as if they were under-inflated. I am running all tires 2PSI above the spec written in the door jamb. Alignment is the only other cause for the tire wear aside from the driver's side guide rod mount being shot.

I plan on replacing the guide rod mount Friday morning and I already have an appointment for the alignment in the afternoon. I'm taking the day off work to get this done. Friday evening I am taking the girlfriend and a pair of other friends on a trip to the beach. It will be a few hundred miles each way. Other than these issues, I am confident in the car as it has been my DD for almost a year and no major issues have come up.

Talking to the service department today was pleasant. They kindly added me into their system and setup a time to do the alignment. Hopefully they have more than stale coffee in the waiting room. I want some free noms and a soda if I am paying over $200 for an alignment!

When I go to the dealer's parts counter I have with me a printout from EPC with the part I want, the part number, and the VIN of my car. Apparently so many of their customers show up not knowing what they want (and making the parts guys hunt through the catalog while the line of customers gets longer) that they are overjoyed to have a customer who has done the research for them. Because of their high prices I don't deal with them very much but when I do they are happy to deal with me.

The ppl at the parts dept at Jackson Automotive in Macon, Ga (MB/Volvo dealer) are second to none.
