Green wire going to transmission
I'm working on a 1980 300TD Wagon and I have the engine and transmission out.
What's this green wire (that's wrapped in black plastic) that goes from the passenger side towards the rear of the engine bay by the transmission. I've attached two photos: one showing the area with the wire, and the other where the wire goes to on the transmission. The plastic around the wire is brittle and I'd like to replace it if it's possible while every-thing's out. Last edited by whunter; 10-24-2012 at 01:48 PM. Reason: readability |

Yes, it is safe, and recommended to replace that wire when damaged.
I would solder and shrink wrap the new wire. Kickdown valve for passing gear. .

Thanks! Is there any part number for the wire?

Answer
Yes, but it is no longer available or worth replacing as a complete harness.
MB# 1235401506 The harness is between the dashboard/bulkhead/climate control box, passing through Left/Right bulkhead and going to each headlight. Depending on skill level, from ten hours to several weeks of work.. The logical answer is: * Disconnect the battery. * Locate the wire in the passenger compartment. * Cut the wire near the floor. * Solder a new wire section on. * Shrink wrap the solder joint. * Feed the new wire through the floor. Under the car... * Put shrink wrap on the wire. use a bit of tape to keep it by the body (away from solder heat). * Solder a new connector on the wire. * Shrink wrap the wire. * Attach the wire to transmission kick-down. * Enjoy the car. .
