1995 E300 transmission question
Hey guys, recently acquired a mint E300 with a dying transmission for a song and a dance. Ive been looking around for a replacement and was wondering if the transmission from a 94/95 E320 would work? I seem to find more transmissions for the 320 vs Diesel.
Thanks |
The 320 uses a 722.3 which is beefier and longer, it is more HD than the 722.435 in your car, the 2.5 turbo 300D in the W124 body uses the 722.4xx
btw what is the "dying transmission" doing - it maybe something simple too. |
Reverse hardly works, any slight grade and it shakes and slips. Crawls up these San Francisco hills at 10mph unless you get a running start on flat land otherwise im crawling up the hill. My 450k mile 78 can fly up the same hills at only 3/4 throttle. Acceleration is super slow on the street 0-60 in like 20+ seconds. Once on the freeway it cruises fine up to 100mph.

I'd give the car a trans drain and filter change. see if it helps.
drain the torque converter as well. |
So I took the car to my local indy and had them replace the fluid & filter, as well as drain the torque converter. There was a lot of metal shavings on the filter and pan. My phone was dead and was not able to take a pic but there was enough on the filter to scoop up with a spoon. He confirmed my transmission was on its way out but he recommended a rebuild rather then a swap with a used one. It drives a little better on the street, gained 5mph on the hills but my 78 will still blast threw them faster then this. I figure ill drive it until it dies and save up for a rebuild.
