One for the SLS specialists...

Ive just replaced my trailing-arms, subframe etc yesterday. Job went pretty well, and its a great feeling to know its all good back there....

Its a 1985 300TD W123 Wagon.

My ride-height at the back end is now a fair bit higher than it was.

Ive approximately 2 to 2.5 inches between the top of the tyre and the wheel-arch.
--I know this is pretty easy to adjust, but is there an issue to leaving it as it is.....
I rather like that extra height to the rear of the car....

Coincidentally, I am curious about this as well. I just had a leaking rear shock replaced and when the job was done and the system bled, the car rose to about the height you are describing (odd as it was just a hair over flat before the shock let go).

I know that sitting with the system 'collapsed' can rupture the seals in the shocks, so I am wondering if sitting unusually high can also cause damage.

it will likely settle back where it was in a few weeks of driving... the springs have been released, the vehicle was supported by the frame with everything dangling, and new bushings everywhere will take time to compress and settle.

Ah-- Thanks John, I'll keep an eye on it for a week or so, and let you guys know.

All the bushes except the diff-mount bush was replaced, when I changed the lot over. That one was OK so didn't bother changing it...

If the ride happens to be unusually high it throws off the SLS range and the ride becomes bouncy.
An abnormally high setting causes the camber to go positive thus your tires may wear on the outside edges.
I believe 24 - 25 inches measured to the upper lip on the rear wheel well is as high as it should be.
