300E Alternator on 300D
I swear I'd read something about this but google didn't turn anything up.
Can I put a W124 300E or 260E alternator on an 87 300TDT? I just picked up a TDT that has been sitting 6 years (got the car started with no belt on it and it runs very well) and the alternator is seized. I used my only spare OM603 alternator on my 300D daily, but I have two 300E and a 260E parts car. I've also got some 190E 2.3s that are easier to get to if those will work as well. Any insight? Thanks!

yup.
bolts right up. swap harness from donor car as well! it's what's on my TD

yup. about 2.5 feet of cable, from the alternator to the junction block.
it's a PAIN to route it into the D because of the heat shield between the engine and the air filter... I've done it with the shield in place, and with it out... MUCH EASIER WITH IT OUT. but it's a pain to remove the shield... you have to cut the insulation on the engine side...
