Need Real time help - hosed up my brakes

The calipers and hoses showed up for my brake job on my SDL so this morning I started by removing the old caliper (Passenger side) and the rubber hose - no issues.

Since the fluid was almost black in the reservoir, I sucked up most of it with a syringe leaving about 1 inch on the bottom then proceeded (with the rubber hose completely disconnected from the caliper) to pump the brake pedal to pump out all the old dirty fluid out (rear passenger side). It was coming out for a while (about 20 pumps) and then it just stopped!

It was pumping out air for a long while so I connected the new caliper to the new hose, connected rubber tubing to the bleeding screw and proceeded (with a helper) to pump, it was spurting out lots and lots of air, then it stopped spurting air all together and the fluid too - now nothing is coming out no matter what I do! I can't get my head around this: the reservoir has always been full of fluid - never ran out but nothing is coming out the other end except air now and then - do I have a clog somewhere!?

What did I hose up?!

My '92 300D has a small reservoir toward the back that you have to make sure is being filled when you fill the larger front reservoir.

I had a similar issue and pumped air all into the rear lines because of this.

Would that mysterious rear reservoir had a different fill cap? I'm keeping the main reservoir full all the time.

Update - now all I get out of the hose through the bleeding screw is air, lots and lots of air - about 100 pumps and nothing but air.

pumping it 20 times with no hose attached was not helpful. YOu have truly emptied if of all fluid apparently. Be sure the res it full to the neck of the fill hole and just go back and pump til you get pedal pressure and proceed from there.

Have you successfully bled brakes before?

Apparently filling the reservoir pretty full wasn't doing the job - had to fill it up to the neck until the overflow hole and then pumping it until all air was out - that did the trick - I'm back in business now.

Thx for the quick responses.

Good work! The dividor in the res is easy to get tripped on if you happen not to know about it.
