ONE OF 4 POWER WINDOWS WORKING!!!

I have one power window that works on my 95 Diesel. Can hear the motor working but the windows will not go down or up. Was told by one mechanic that it could be the switches on the console. But at $45/piece I don't want to take that chance if thats not the problem. Any answers??

Start with "less $ invested approach." The easiest way to diagnose the switch is to swap the one from the working window and plug them in sockets of the non-operational window. 0$ invested. (*You will need to pull the cover from the center console off - which can be PITA if you have armrest.)If they work, than you know it is the switch that is faulty. If the tested window still doesnt go down, than its time for more R&R.

But you say that you can hear them work...that could be stripped gear or (in case of the rear window) cable that has snapped.

Check your fuses for at least two of them. If you can read a wiring diagram, try using a jumper to by-pass the switches in order to rule them out. Likely culprit are the regulators, on which you can try refreshing the grease that sometimes gets gunked up after 17 years.

Sounds like a broken regulator cable type I think.they come off the track due to the cheap design with plastic guide wheels

If you can hear the motors then its not the switches, its the regulators.

I don't know what changes were made between 85 & 95. On my 85, the plastic slider in the regulator was broken. The slider es a few ($3?) dollars & relatively easy to replace. Pull the door card and have a look. See FSM for removal procedure. At least pull the card up, not out so you don't break the tabs that hold it to the door.

The differences are way different no slider is going to fix it. You could pull the panel to see if maybe the cable slipped off the plastic wheel that's about usually the cable gets all tangled up and is useless. God luck. I know there not to cheap depending on how deep your wallet is.
