Black plastic cover comes off the ignition key

I have several older Mercedes and it seems they all have a common problem of the black plastic "handle" part of the ignition key cracking and eventually falls off the metal part of the key. I have seen some that were super glued back together but that only last a couple months. Anybody else had this problem and come up with a good fix?

i just throw away the black plastic and drill a hole in the key for the key ring.

there are many fixes for this issue on here.
just do a search on key head and you will find plenty.
I soldered a copper pipe smashed flat to the key. stamped the MB symbol into the copper, and painted it black.
others have cast urethane molds, or shaped some zebrano wood and affixed it to the key.

You can always make a wood key head.

Unfortunetly the new keys MB makes for us suck. They plastic heads used to be molded to the keys, now they are a slip on cover. The old molded keys held up WAY better. The new ones last a year or two at the most, and then crack and tear.

I like Chads idea of the POR-15 epoxy putty, especially since I have some.
