Lost/forgotten forum members

I have been trying to get in touch with forum member eatont999 for a couple days via PM, and have not gotten a reply. His last post was on the 25th of March. I received some parts for the repair of my '91 350SDL in trade for A/C parts, and I need to send them to him. I hope this will not turn out like the other forum member uberwasser, that has not posted here since last year. Anyone know what has happened to eatont999?

General advice would be to use the "send an email" option instead of a PM-ing the member, that has worked for me in the past when people aren't around.

I always thought eatont999 sort of came and went, same as me. Sometimes I post 10x in a day then not for two weeks.

Also this forum has drifted a bit off the rails over the last year on several fronts. Cannot speak for the other members, but that is the reason I am on here about 80 percent less than one year ago. Not that I am suggesting I was exactly a lynchpin, far from it... but I have been on a variety of Mercedes lists/forums since 1995 and driven these cars since 1997.

Has there been a change any of you would like adjusted? Or is it more a change of ownership and or maintenance of the vehicles?

Be nice to be able to only see ''new posts'' from forums we have interest in.

Example... I hit new posts today, got bout 100 threads to come up, about 1/2
were in the 'open discussion' forum. I personally dont come here to bash/promote obama nor to bash/promote moslems.

Still have to wade thru all the BS to find threads I actually have interest in.

That's pretty much why I don't hang out here like I used to.

Hmm. When I open the forum, I just open the section I'm looking at.
I have favorites saved to the forums I use.
DD, TH, MOD, ETC...

Same here. I can't bother looking at posts from the forum sections that I have no interest in. I hang out in DD, as I only deal with Diesel cars. Every once in a while I go to the for sale or alt fuel sub forum, but that is about as far as I go. The users that I am concerned about, hang out here mostly as well.......Rich

Sometimes, I suspect that many get into the pit with parts of the Open Discussion section and afterwards, have to spend a bit of time getting the muck off. There is enough perversion in the news to have to come here and play in the same mire.

That is why I have resorted to the technical parts of the forum. At least 90% in DD, with some DIY, and and occasional foray in Parts and rarely Performance.

Hopefully, I'm wondering if Eaton999 may have just been sidetracked with another personal commitment or just plain "taking a break".

It is the spring vacation time of the year.

Chances are the guy is on a beach sipping a chilled beverage served by a buxom local

Well, okay, here I go probably coming across as the jerk in this picture

I'm not sure what notification you guys are talking about, maybe it's a User CP configuration issue. I just have a direct bookmark into DD and apart from the odd visit to parts for 'sale and wanted', I don't go onto the other subforums.

John, when I find myself in the coldest February on record up here, having to fight with people from Southern California who are telling others (including me) from the Northeast that they know more about extreme cold starts, than me/us....

When newbies are giving advice on auto climate control based on their 1982 Caprice Classic....

When members I have never heard of pop up to tell a new diesel owner with a starting problem in extreme cold, that the first step is to pull the injectors and replace the nozzles....

When another mysterious pop-up member alleges there is no difference between ACCII and III, and won't shut up (again, delivering advice to a newbie)....

And all of this just floats by....

And there is no "report this post" button since the change of ownership....

And I don't want to turn into a certain lately departed ex-moderator and start losing my ***** on someone every second day... but I am getting close....

I stay away.

Maybe it is time to consider adding more mods, to just scan the list to minimize the idiocy quotient?

BTW I do not mean to imply this happens all the time. But sometimes things seem to get quiet around here, and people post questions that are still waiting for a response 24 or even 72 hours on. That seems to be when the lunatic fringe pops their head up.

Apparently I am not the only one.
I hear ya on going to the forum page and scrolling from there.

I will say that bad advise is worse than no advise. More of us need to jump in
when BS direction is indicated as we all have seen lately far far too often.

Several times I have sought out help here and ALWAYS received appropriate direction which I certainly appreciate.

I'm a new member and find this forum very helpful. I've gotten tons of good advice about how to tackle simple repairs that seem daunting to someone new to the MB diesel world.

I find it a friendly place, but I also try not to get involved in something I have not done firsthand, though!

When I am logged in, there is a small exclamation point in the upper right corner of each post which is a "Report Post" button. I view the site in Firefox, so it may look different on your computer with your browser.
