240D alternator in a 190D?

Does anybody know if I can put the alternator from a '78 240D into an '84 190D?
I know I'd have to swap pulleys but it otherwise appears like it'd work.

I'd like to try it just for testing, I know the 240D had a lower output alternator. I *think* the alt in my 190D is dead but I'd like to be able to swap to be sure. I could just pull the 190D alt to get tested but with the holidays here, you know how it is.

I am no expert on electrical but guess it would not hurt anything.

should bolt right up, but the wiring may be different. if the 190 has spades, then go for it.
shame to put in a 55A where a 70 goes though...

I agree, if it works I'll get a replacement 70a. This is just a troubleshooting step.

I have put a 240D engine in a 190e chassis so I can say with experience that the wiring harness will work with the 190e harness, no problem.

The 240D alternator output is on the edge at idle though. If I have the heater blower on high with the head lights on in the line at the drive trough, I will see the volt gauge start to drop, (I added a volt gauge). If I bring the engine speed up a bit the voltage comes back to 14V though. I have the idle set at about 1000 RPM.

The only issue I had was a loose connector in the 190e plug, but after squeezing the connector tabs, it fit tight and no problems since.

It turns out that although the wiring fits the alternator physically will not, the bolts don't line up. Having the wiring work out was enough to tell me I need an alternator though so the job was a success!

won't fit? really? that's odd... I've put alts in from several different models...
