Yes, yes. I started collecting vacuums 6 years ago... I just picked up a 25-year-old Kenmore upright (2-speed, 8 vacuuming heights), that I have not added to the signature yet. It runs, but is ear-piercing, so I suspect a bad fan blade. This one is a dual-fan, so I hope that only one is cracked!

The lawn mowers are a more recent thing -- I figured out that those can be had for nothing (or close to it), because they never get maintained and end up on the curb at 5-7 years old ("hard to start" is the usual complaint).

Oh, and I am allergic to both grass and dust. Figures.

There are possibly tons of them still on the road where he lives. Most garages today probably do not want to work on old iron. Even a possibility he may attract enough by word of mouth to give up his two hundred mile return commute every working day.

Also the time may be approaching that people will want true restoration work done on these old diesels. I have one pretty good candidate for an approach like that myself. A fairly light restoration in fact. Major ones are almost out of the question from a financial perspective on a marginal car of this type. Ten years from now the 123s might be quite scarce. Or heaven forbid worth real money. Hard to say how the future is going to play out now.
