how to upgrade and or disable " factory " air box/computer ?????

Simple question " hopefully " i want to " upgrade " my 1986 300sdl to the custom cold air intake ... BUT ... on the " stock " air box it has connections for computer i assume .... how do i disable / bypass it .... ( if necessary ) or does it matter ????

"Computer" is a misnomer. The EGR box isn't smart enough to be called a "computer." The air box has a flap with a potentiometer that tells EGR how much air the engine is sucking in. If you have EGR defeated (and even if you have not) it is unlikely to make a difference if you remove it. You cannot completely remove all of the EGR electronics because the tachometer signal runs through the electronics.

A number of W124/OM603 listers have removed the air box and replaced it with a pipe. This action alone reduces the car's weight by more than ten pounds. Whether the plumbing in the SDL is the same I do not know.

I compared the two, and while they are not the same, they are close. similar bypass methods should work.
the SDL "computer" sits at an angle, and it's longer than the 124 box. but it appears to be the same size fittings.
