1984 Mercedes 2.2 rear main seal ,underway this weekend
I have the seal but noticed their maybe 2 different sizes.If anyone can direct how to performed and any tricks to a successful end to this messy problem,thanks.

I went to Home depot and found a pvc 4" connecter that Ill be using to tap in the seal ,similiar to what mr bergsmen has on his video,cost $4 and will make the job easy peasey.If you hunt for this same pvc piece youll want to have the seal with you to find just the right one that matches the seal ,if to small or to big you can easily damage the seal.

This was a 2 man job ,a lift is a must,the regrets are not having some parts like the drive shaft flex disc to replace the shot ones. The 2 hold ups that kept the job at a crawl was ,one , the torq converter got hung up , and 2nd
,a trans cooler line got bent and this banjo type line is definately not one you want to do this to and expect it to line up properly.You have to bring the lift down to get to the trans dip stick and shift down cable so if you can get those unbolted first youll be one step ahead .Once we lifted the car down we started it up and lifted back up to find zero leaks ,nice to see this car not bleeding oil anymore. |

In hindsight, do you think it would have been easier to pull the motor and tranny as a unit and seperate / reunite them out of the vehicle?
I did a tranny swap a while back and decided it would be easier to me to pull the motor and tranny both for a future swap.

The time it takes to pull the engine and reinstall it would increase ,the long extentions it takes to get at the housing bolts is another reason for the 2 man job explained,its hunting for the bolts without sighting them that becomes difficult .If you tried a diy on this yourself I would say yes ,pull both .

Don't have a lift so the car was up on jack stands in my case. Did have a helper but my recollection was an unusual amount of time on those top bolts even with air tools and a good supply of extensions. Mating the tranny and motor didn't go smooth for us either? Both said we would pull the 2 as a unit if doing it again.
Congrats on stoping the leak!
