W140 shut off circuit... any electrical components?

How does the W140 350SD shut itself down? Is it all vacuum/mechanical? Trying to figure out how to shut mine off since the car was originally a gasser. I don't have a mechanical vacuum solenoid.

The W140 diesel uses an electric vacuum solenoid to route vacuum to the shut off valve on the injection pump.

Is it an on/off solenoid? Is it energized the whole time the car is in the run position?
I think I still have a blow off valve of some sort... can I use that? I'm just worried about it being energized a long time... doesn't that heat up the relay?

You can just use an EGR vacuum switch off a chevy. It's designed to be energized all the time and they're cheap.

Here's one: Standard T Series VS12T EGR Solenoid | eBay

If the pump requires vacuum to shut down, then you'll have to swap the filter to the opposite side so vacuum will flow when the power is removed.

In your country it would be far easier to get a vacuum solenoid valve from a toyota/honda etc. from the yard, on toyotas they are the same all over the car, EGR, EVAP, idle up for carby etc..

They are designed to work for long periods of time.

If it was originally a gasser it should have some MB-original EGR switchover valves on it that can be used for the shutdown function, thats what I did with my 190e to d conversion. Been working great so far.

Don't know what they look like and where they're located. Any hints?

Thanks for the tip! if I don't find any in my car I'll look for one of those. I'm unfamiliar with vacuum solenoids.

That looks simple enough! Chevy has presence here so that's good to know. Thanks for the tip!

I've gone ahead and bought a solenoid that diverts any air/vacuum source. The thing is... I'm not comfortable having it energized the entire time the car is running...well more than that, I don't want the car to shut-off while driving IF the solenoid suddenly fails or loses power...not very diesel like.

How do I wire it such that it gets energized momentarily when the key is turned off? I have no idea what circuitry can do this.
Should I just install a separate button/switch for engine shut-off?
