Tranny shift adjustment, '84 300SD

Greetings Benz Lovers,

I'm trying to butter you up because this topic has been hashed over several time already, but I can't seem to find all the posts for it. I feel that I am getting too early of a shift from 2nd to 3rd, like right after one comes the other. In most cases from a dead stop it seems that the car starts out in 1st gear, rapidly to 2nd then plunk into 3rd before 25mph and 4th will draw out until about 37-40mph. This seems almost to early of a shift from 2nd to 3rd. What adjustment can be made to draw the shifts out a bit in order to keep rpm's up a bit more? I would also like to know if during an incline grade, if anyone out there is getting a downshift vacuum wise from the tranny without having to engage the downshift button? I managed to get my '80 300TD to shift flawlessly with inclines etc. but it is a mechanical set-up that was pretty easy to adjust for proper shift points. Any ideas out there on the easiest or correct way to attempt this adjustment, please give me a holler.

Charles

I know that there are several folks out there that know the answers, so don't hold out on me.

Can do

This is a common problem and there are many posts on this. I suspect most of us are tired of typing these answers and that is why we are attempting an easier way of coagulating the posts by topic. Please do a search using words like shifting or transmission or vaccuum or modulator.

I think this is what I would do first.
I am assuming that there is a vaccuum modulator on the trans.
One cheap and easy thing to do on a W123 is, pop the white vaccuum cap off the modulator and replace the O-ring. This gives a good vaccuum seal and the modulator works like new!
