OM617.912 Water Pumps

Does anyone know where I can find the shorter style water pump pictured? I didn't realize there was a long and a short option, all I can find anywhere is the long pump.

Europe. There was also a water pump into which the fan clutch threaded with a long central bolt. Not available in the USA either.

I see, have you dealt with any parts suppliers over there? Or do I have to go direct to Mercedes?

Might be cheaper to get new bearings & seals in the old one....

If it helps anyone else, the short water pump I needed for my OM617 is off the '66 & '67 200d.

How did you figure that out and why do you need the shorter pump?

My 309D had an OM617 swapped into it at some point. The long pump would hit the radiator, and the belt wouldn't line up with the crank or alternator.

I figured it was off another Mercedes, so I just started looking through the different models on Pelican.

you've been keeping secrets from us. Pony up the pictures. We want to see them all, including under the doghouse. Is it a turbo 617? Is it a camper? What is the top speed?

I'll get some good pictures this week.

It's a '67 309D, ex German postal truck. It's a non-turbo, 4spd manual, 1st is a crawler. It is a camper, the interior is in decent shape, needs carpet and minor fixing. I've had it since October, and it was painted a couple months prior. I bought it thinking it had a blown head gasket, but it actually had a cracked head which I've replaced. I've only got about a week of daily driving under my belt so far, but I love it.

I keep it around 45mph right now as I'm not real familiar with the 617, and there's no RPM gauge.

I've attached a pic of the head I had to replace. It's been running brilliantly (it started after what sounded like one revolution the othe morning when it was 9 degrees out!) until it developed a misfire yesterday: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/333362-617-sudden-miss-down-power.html

are you a betting man???

Hmmm....

We could make a bet if I have one. Didn't I have a 200D engine that I parted out?

Thanks for the link! I actually already got a new one from Pelican, that's it next to my old one pictured above.

Can you run the longer water pump and convert to an electric fan for clearance?

Speaking from direct experience with a 617 in a van, no. Not enough air flow from an electric fan.
