Injector pump leaking :( 1998 E300TD

Newest 'challenge' is a leaky diesel Fuel Injector pump on my 208K 1998 E300TD.
Was told it's not rebuildable while I wait; rather order a rebuild unit for $805. Ouch. Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you in advance.

My'99 E300 IP started leaking everywhere a couple of weeks ago. With 189K, there had been no prior problems, if fact it ran great while smelling faintly of raw diesel. When I finally noticed the puddle, I had the seals & gaskets replaced @ RDM in Tiverton, waiting on a shutoff valve. Good luck with your repair.

If you haven't removed the hard lines and created a leak there, the first thing I'd look at is replacing the delivery valve o-rings. This is really the only place the pump can leak aside from the shut off valve.

May be time to get a new mech who will treat you more honestly or is better equipped to make a knowlegable diagnosis.

See Kartek's post above.

Unless you've done something to it while trying to work on it, IP's almost always outlast the engine......

There are plenty of places on the injector pump that can leak fuel, that are easily repaired. It can be hard to determine exactly where the leaking fuel is coming from, but if you can localize the leak it should be easy to get it fixed. My most recent leak was from the fuel line o-ring on top of the lift pump which is the thing that protrudes from the side of the injector pump. There are about 5 fuel line o-ring connections on the injector pump. The delivery valves and the shut of valve on mine were replaced previously. So just find someone familiar with Mercedes repairs and they can fix the leak.

Parrot of Doom did an excellent DIY on leaking delivery valve seals. When mine started leaking, fuel was welling up in the lower belly pan. Looking at the IP, it was almost impossible to see where the leak was coming from. As recommended by other posters, I sprayed the top of the IP with brake cleaner, and wiped it dry. Started the engine, and then continuously ran my finger over the top of the IP. After a minute or two, my finger was damp with raw fuel, which could not be seen by the naked eye. That fuel has a tendency to work its way towards the back of the engine, and is very hard to trace. If it is the delivery valve seals, you looking at about $10-15 in parts. Good luck
