W123 vacuum question
'83 300D
I need to get the vacuum door locks working again. The yellow line to the drivers door is broken so that's most likely the culprit. I can lock the rears and they immediately push the front locks up so I bet the system is relatively leak free. But in the engine compartment off the yellow vacuum splitter thing there should be which color lines? I have the yellow blocked off and plugged into it is a green with yellow line and then there is a yellow with red just chilling not connected to Anything. Can anyone advise on what should be where? |

On my '83 300D, the yellow/green stripe line is for climate control and is not attached to the yellow check valve. Attached to the yellow check valve is a solid yellow line and a yellow line with a (maybe) brown stripe, which I believe is routed to the vacuum reservoir.

Yellow lines are all door locks. Yellow with red is lock, yellow with green is unlock, and yellow with brown is reservoir. Green lines are climate control. You should have a T from the main vac line going to a solid yellow that goes to the master door lock switch in the door, as well as the yellow/brown line that goes to the res. The yellow/green and yellow/red, should all be in the cabin of the car controlling the locking and unlocking. You should have a yellow/green and a yellow/red going to each door and trunk, and only a yellow/red going to the fuel door lock.

Ok cool, so what to do about that random green line?

Plug it into the 4-way connector, but not into the yellow check valve.

Ok.
It's a pain trying to run a new line to the drivers door! Any tips? |

But that may not be feasible in your particular situation. Last edited by qwerty; 01-01-2013 at 01:26 PM. |

It broke at the door joint.
I also do not have. 4 way vacuum connector, only a 3. Odd. So I have a tempt setup patching the line and in getting 15+ inches of vacuum from the yellow line. I let the car idle for a bit to build vacuum and I cannot lock/unlock from the drivers door |

"4 way" includes the supply connection. One supply connection, splitting (3 ways) to climate control, door lock check valve and shut-off valve. Check valve then splits to reservoir and primary door lock circuit.

Got it.
I have a supply going to the drivers door yet the locks do not lock when I lock the drivers door. If anything I'd like to just bypass the vacuum locks but I can't because when I manually lock the doors they unlock each other! |

That's easy to fix. Just pull up the carpet and disconnect a couple of vacuum lines. Front passenger would be a good spot.

I remembered about those lines. I disconnected them for now.
Also the drivers door has a kinked line, the yellow/red is kinked.. but thankfully inside the door so I should be able to snip and add in a patch. any tips or tricks for running a new line through the jamb would be cool. I did test all of the vac elements from the passenger seat junction. The left rear door does not hold vacuum for unlock, nor does the fuel door.I think I have a spare lock element for a door in my box of parts. I think I may have to go to the junkyard this weekend and test out the w123 that is there for vacuum stuff and just hoard it all |
