1984 300TD instrument lights

My cluster has been dark for a long time, last time speedo was repaired I tried the soldering a jumper wire fix of the dimmer , still dark, all lights, console & shifter, Today I removed cluster & found my jumper wire repair had not held, so I soldered it again, better this time, & re installed, still no instrument cluster or console BUT, my shifter lights now, so I think my dimmer switch repair is working this time, I checked bulbs & their OK, any other known problems or suggestions?

Hello behind the radio and AC pushbutton unit there is a small pee size.bulb that lights the fibre opticals lights.
note if the AC push button lights don't light up. I have seen many burnt out.there's 4 bulbs pee type that press in.
I'd check.all this first and report back good luck.
And be sure it check all the fuses first

not sure how it can be fuse if the transmission letters are lit, don't really need climate control lights, just need instr.. cluster,

But do the AC lights work?

Over time the cluster can become dim. Even if the lights are all working.do you need glasses my problem is with my 2.50 reading glasses I can see great.without them there dim plus I can even see the odometer without my readers.
my old boss said its the cluster you can see the clear reflectors that the pee bulbs go into the sockets. After time the reflectors don't work like new anymore. Hope this helps.
