I would PM someone (you can PM me for a list).

But advertising for another parts distributor on another parts distributor forum 1) isn't going to be successful 2) is against the rules 3) kinda rude.

Anyway, even if you don't PM me for sources, my personal favorite for parts is ferrous oxide-y. He helps you buy mb parts, that's his biz.

I would talk to Wayne and at least give him a chance to straighten whatever the situation is out before getting upset. Sometimes **** happens. A good measure of a person/business is how they respond when things go wrong.

This.

I have not needed to buy anything since Phil passed but pelican is my parts supplier of choice.

meh, i'm not upset, just curious where folks are getting parts. I bought parts from Phil for years, always liked him and praised him and bought from him. Rusty is worth a shot

I'm giving Pelican a shot, not going to praise them just cuz they 'sponsor the forum'

from Pelican's website

" We are committed to providing the best customer satisfaction possible. We will gladly refund or replace any defective item and most non-defective items. However, we reserve the right to charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the order. We do not pay or reimburse the costs for shipping returns back to our location. Within 30 days of receipt of your order, you may return products that:

Are in their original packaging
Have original manufacture information
Are not used, installed, or disassembled
Are not damaged due to incorrect installation
Do not have missing parts, hardware or instructions"

So if you get a defective part from Pelican, install it, they are not going to take the part back. Huh? And if they do, they require you to pay the shipping back to them & they may charge you 15% on top of that.

And they don't wanna pay for my labor either to 'test' their defective parts.

A warranty on a product is different from what you have above.
We are used to returning defective products back to Walmart or such but that is their choice to do that.
Walmart could actually say that you have to contact the Manufacturer concerning the warranty if they wanted to.

No parts company that I know of has an obligation to pay for the Labor charge on a defective part unless they choose to make an exception.

A truly defective part is not going to be restocked so there should be no restocking charge.

To give an answer to your question the internet is wonderful as far as the ability to shop around but you need to spend time doing that. Much better than calling on the around on the Telephone or driving different places to price stuff.

For me getting the best price on parts that I wants means buying stuff from different places at different times.
Some places have better deals on some parts and not so good on others.

Actually the warranty on Mercedes parts is one year unlimited mileage. If the part turns out to be defective in that period of time, the part and the labor to replace it are covered no matter who installed it the first time, assuming it was installed correctly. I know of more than one person who used that warranty successfully.

The online vendors all sell parts from the same suppliers. You have the same chance of a bad part from the guy in Atlanta, as anyone else. There have been numerous threads about the declines in parts quality from many suppliers, both 'name' brands and of course the cheaper lines.

No one with an established mail-order business knowingly sells defective product. It is counter-productive and counter-intuitive to the whole basis business model.

Please specify which online parts vendor has told you in writing, or has published on his website, that he will pay labour or return shipping to take back parts in the situation you describe. I very interested to hear who will do it.

No one is suggesting you praise Peach for nothing. However, right now you are slagging them off without any details or reference to whatever problem it is you had.

i ordered a bunch of stuff from pelican recently.....was supposed to come in 3 boxes from 2 different places, but 5 days after i got the parts another 2 boxes showed up with "the rest"

this did perturb me slightly.....mainly because if it had been a customer car, the delay would have costed time and money....

wrote pelican on Jan. 5
by Jan 8, still no response from Pelican
called pelican on Jan 8
was told someone will 'call me in 10 minutes'
nobody ever called me
finally, pelican responded (only after I called) and said to swap the passenger/driver side
emailed Pelican on January 12
no response from Pelican

and still no response from Pelican. I've read other complaints on Pelican

I won't be buying parts from Pelican. I'll go with Rusty at Buy MB Parts.

btw, Kragen reimbursed my labor on a defective part. Also, I think it's uncool that Pelican doesn't pay return shipping on defective parts. Again, I won't be buying anything else from Pelican. my choice

I'm not going to waste my time searching. I'd say almost anyone would take back a DEFECTIVE part. I'm damn certain that Phil would have, but all of the parts I bought from him were solid.

Pelican won't get away with selling me a defective $500 part, no chance.

I've bought since Phil's passing and have gotten good enough to recommended. Prior SVC was excellent but I've not tested it hard. Prior defect was handled even when my mistake caused the defect. Gotta repair the car regardless. My FUBAR only cost time and shipping, not big $$. When in doubt, get someone on the phone.

I ordered parts from Phil on many occasions, usually it all come at the same time. I did have one order that too about 5 days longer that the first packages. most things come from wearhouses here on the west coast. the order that came late was from a east coast wearhouse, and also there was a problem with the wearhouses being out of stock.

Phil could just about get anything from anywhere, but he didn`t have the parts on a shelf he could just throw in a box and send off.

I don`t know what Pelicans inventory is, or if they have any stock on hand. I believe they too order from several diferent vendors, including from MB.

Pelican parts just isn`t the sponser of Peach Parts forum, they own it.
