83 300sd valve body gaskets

I removed the valve body a month ago to replace the b2 piston and can't remember if there are two gaskets for the valve body. Or dose the main valve body goes metal to metal to the plate?

I had to remove this in order to remove the lip seal.

Can these gaskets be purchased without buying the complete OH kit?

Do some just reuse the old gasket?

Thanks,

Tom

For others so they don't have to drop the Valve body.
I go by 300Dman over Benzworld. I post #8 I drew a sketch and gave some instructions on how to make a cheap Tool that will pull the B2 Bushing and Seal all at one time the same as I did on My own.
At the end there is some pics of the guy using the tool.

The Mercedes Dealer might sell the individual Gasket.
I don't know about on yours but on mine while there is only one gasket there is 2 differen types that have slighlty different holes in them. But, you have an earlier model.

While the Valve body is off there is a measurement you can take to determing if the thrust rod (dog bone) is the proper length; there is several sizes.

It might be useful for you to post your Transmission number.

Thank you for your response.

I tried your puller and did not work for me. That puller is a very good idea, but I could not get to work even with the valve body removed.

I did not want to remove the VB, but did so as a last resort and did damage to red o ring trying to get the lip seal out.
I do suggest to others to try 911's puller as it has worked for some others.

The dam o ring was mean to get in place. After several hours of no success,
I invented a helper tool to get it installed.

While trying to get the o ring into the groove, it kept coming out on the oppisite side from where I was trying to get the last part of the o ring into the groove.
I found about a 10 inch feeler gauge and cut it off 1 inch short of going all the way around the diameter of the bore. Put as much of the o ring into place. Put the feeler gauge on the o ring and then used two long screw drivers to get the last 1/8 inch of the seal into the groove.
Make sure the screwdrivers do not have any sharp edges.
It took a couple nights of sleep to hit on the feeler gauge idea.
For those who might not know what a feeler gauge is. It is what you would use to adjust the valve lash. You may get the longer gauges from the parts stores.
Now I need help on if there are 2 gaskets for the VB please!

Tom

There are some pictures here that might help

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/323259-722-303-bits-photo-shoot.html

This is a 722.303 that was mostly fitted to W126 models; by the sounds of it you probably have a 722.315 which is slightly different - but the differences are in the tail cone section...

I would not be reusing gaskets. You can get them individually (I'm not allowed to say where on this web site though!).
