OM606 harness replacement-Extra wire?

My 95 was running a little rough, so I went ahead and removed/cleaned the tabk and replaced all three fuel filters. The car started fine, and ran alright, but had no power.

With the filters replaced, the car ran fine, but out of the blue the engine stalled while traveling at 35mph and would not restart. A little looking around led me to the wiring harness which was in pretty bad shape, particularly at the various plugs where the copper was exposed and rubbing on adjacent wires.

I removed the entire harness and installed the new one, but have this extra wire that I cannot figure out what to do with. My original harness appeared to have this "extra" wire very cleanly cut inside the large plastic wire sleeve.

Any ideas? This wire was obviously cut or fell off quite a while ago, but I'm afraid to put the manifold back on and realize that I in fact needed that extra wire.

In the picture, the wire is coming up from the master harness, from, the third port down from the firewall.

Jon

Maybe a more specific question will get me some help.

Does every car use every wire from the harness?

I ordered my harness through parts.com using my VIN, can't imagine this is the wrong part.

I've seen plenty of wire harnesses that have extra wires.
if your old harness was neatly tied off at that wire, I'd tie that wire off.
however, you could also go to a mercedes dealer and see if the wire is in the EPC...
in your pic, I see a wire directly below the one you are holding that looks like it would match, no?

Just a follow up for future reference as I figured out what this 'extra' plug is for.

It is for the rack position sensor which is non existent on the OM606.910 IP's. The OM606.912 and .962 have this sensor fitted to the IP so the plug has a home.
