Thread pitch of Alternator Mounting Bolt

Greetings fellow Benz owners,

I am brand-new to this forum (this is my first post) and relatively new to the world of 240D's. Here's my question:

While changing the alternator belt on my 1981 240D I discovered that one of the bolts is missing - the one on the bottom that goes through the bracket and alternator. I've been able to determine that I need a 10x120 mm bolt, but with what thread pitch? 1.25? or 1.5?

I've been able to find a few posts on this forum with the same problem, but none that answer my question. The internet in general is also not much with this, since all I can find is a alternator adjuster bolt, which I also need

thanks for the help.

I'm gonna bump this, since I've just come across the same problem myself. Went to change my alternator only to find the bottom bolt is missing.
Anyone got a part number or all the bolt specs?
It's the 1.25. Store only had 1.50 and it wouldn't thread in.

I would buy two bolts, one each of the two available thread pitch versions available, and see which threads into the female end. I would be kind of surprised if the fine pitch is uses as this is not an application where the advantages of a fine pitch can be exploited. For me, the fuel cost involved in a trip to the hardware store with a good selection of metric fasteners is more than the bolt is likely to cost, so I would not want to have to make another trip....picking up both fasteners is then a reasonable hedge for the uncertainty. If there were many options, I might think otherwise.

The OP hasn`t been back since 02-02-13, so didn`t get the instant answer and moved on. this one slipped by me back in January. I probly have the bolts I could have sent the guy.

I edited my first post. No one in town had the 1.25 which has to be the correct pitch. Not an advert but the company on Ebay called Ace Alternators out of Whittier Ca. has some nice remans which is the one I just installed with pulleys attached( that was a prerequisite for me). $59.00+25.00 shipping to the the east coast USPS. Stock spec alternator which is all I need. I know we should use Peach and Phil was always extremely helpful to me on the phone but I need ed the pulley.
