Found a very nice one, but high miles. (358K) has service records and is in very nice condition. How long do these guys last? Is it one the edge of everything going kaput?
I know there are many factors involved here, but I'd like some general feedback... |

Tx Man, There are a few thousand posts on the board on the ins and outs of the 124. No one disputes that this is a solid, well engineered, good car. And then there are hundreds of posts on the ins and outs of the diesel version(s). If you get a car that runs well, is well maintained, with records, and you don't pay a lot, you are getting excellent value for your money, even with the high miles.
But I'm biased. Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300D, 387K

Depends on who you ask.
It still has 642K mile to reach 1M miles . That is what everyone claims a MBZ can do.
In reality, 358K is a lot of miles but at least the seller is honest. Unlike some super 'low' mileage cars kicking around in CL with the ODO turned back. If the price is right and you can wrench then go for it. The way I look at it is that if I can get 50K out of it then I would come out ahead. btw: I would not depend on it as my only car at that mileage. Good luck.

Depends on the price. What's he asking?
In any case, you would need to be prepared for the tranny to need to be replaced at any time.

Seems ok.
If it doesn't burn oil go for it. I'm selling my 1992 for 5000 to a friend. It has new tranny and torque converter , flex discs, cylinder head, shocks, idler arm, euro headlights and more. It has 250,000 miles. No ac.
At that mileage about everything that breaks should have broke and been fixed by now. The tranny is the big thing that will set you back 1000 or more. 1400 in My case and I pulled and installed myself. So if u spend 2500 now u may be spending another 2500 in next couple years. But then u should be good to go. I think it would be cool to drive a car over 500,000 miles.
