2005 E320CDI - Cleaning the EGR Valve, what's needed?

As soon as it gets somewhat warm here, I need to pull my EGR valve and clean it. The car drive perfect back from Atlanta when I bought it, but I noticed it's not fully warming up. Just getting to 50C on the road. So, going to replace the thermostat. But having some lurching issues at part throttle where the car just lunges back and forth under part throttle at low RPMS, and the RPMs bounce up and down also during that period. It sounds like EGR from what I've been reading. Anyway, if I pull the EGR to clean it, A) What should I soak it in, and how should it be cleaned? and B) Will I need to order some sort of gasket to reinstall the valve?

Thanks!
